I'd think it would be to protect the threads while in shipping.

I suspect the original didn't have anything?

I'd also guess that if you threaded it in (even partially), that "film" would come off...

Protection during shipping is my guess as well. It's certainly not needed. Plus, you run the risk of a small piece of it clogging up internal passages. Remove.

FYI, boats.net is a simple online retailer - I wouldn't rely on them for advice. Next time, buy from your dealer or a "true" online dealer like SIM Yamaha. Andy is wonderful.

Boats.net is paying the bill to host this site.

Personally, I find it "in poor taste"
to come on here, bash their services,
and advocate that others do business elsewhere.

boats.net is a sister organization of Central Florida Yamaha. Largest retailer of Yamaha spare parts (and possibly loose motors) in the United States. In any organization one can get bad advice. Nature of people. Usually men who cannot find it within themselves to say they don't know. Same with Andy's folks in Wisconsin. I know them well.

I agree with fairdeal. You are outta line. I have been there myself a time or two. Suggest you modify your comments.

Fair/Boscoe - thank you for the heads up. I didn't realize Boats dot net was the site owner. I agree with your input.

However... it appears there's no "edit" button... if a mod sees this, please feel free to completely delete my second line in post #4.

You might be OK. If a piece of that plastic gets into the system, though, it means a total tear down to fix - although it may be cheaper to just replace the unit if it's not something you're comfortable with as there are lots of tiny little parts inside. The threads don't do the sealing - the o-ring does.
