Water flow thru RECTIFIER & REGULATOR ASSY ???

changed out a waterpump on a friens 04 300 hpdi today and noticed the water flows thru this electrcal item...can anyone tell me the significance of this,does this unit get to a temp that it needs to be cooled?

A lot of the V6 engines are using water cooled regulators instead of the air vane reg. With the newer higher amp alternators they need to find a way to keep it cool.

there seemed to be a pisser restriction so we followed the hoses and there it was... have you ever seen them get clogged as theyre prior to the telltale outlet....mine are `00`s so i havent encountered this yet.
