f150 hard to crank after u run motor

got a 05 f150 motor runs fine till it gets warm or hot turn motor off hard to crank back smell gas like its flooded i can let motor cool and will crank up thanks if someone can help

Hard to crank or hard to start?

Hard to crank would indicate a starter motor issue.

Hard to start might indicate a fuel system issue.

What is the complete model identity? Is it an F150TLRD or TXRD?

Yamaha offered a modification to 2004 and 2005 model year motors to help counter a hard-to-restart hot motor but if yours has been working well all these years perhaps you don't need the modification kit. Perhaps a part or two that was formerly working well has now gone kaput. That, or maybe you are using winter blend fuel in the hot temperature of summer time.

ALL F150 motors had a fuel cooler.
the vapor recovey kit was just that,it recovered any escaping vapors from the Vapor Seperator.

if the fuel cooler isn't cooling properly the VST can heat up and cause excessive vapors to accumulate in the air intake.

this can and will create a hard hot restart.
try cracking the throttle slightly,if that helps you know its a vapor issue.

best I recall that kit is no longer avalible and in pieces its very expensive.

later motors all have vapor recovery and reburn setups.
EPA says no more venting vapors to the atmosphere in VST,fuel tanks or lines.
that's why new ,since 2010,tanks swell up like a bloated pig in the sun.
the vent wont release until it hits about 5 PSI.

its also why they now add yet another device in the fuel line to prevent this pressure from popping off fuel lines and flooding fuel systems.

Cranking is the rotation of the motor by the electric starter motor. If a motor will not crank then the flywheel is not being rotated by the starter motor.

A motor that is being rotated by the starter motor (aka cranking) but which will not start due to any one of a number of different reasons is a different matter altogether. A motor may not crank. A motor may crank but not start. A motor may crank, be started, but not run.

As rodnut noted about the fuel cooler, WHUUUUUT? All Yamaha F150's came/come with a fuel cooler. A fuel/water heat exchanger if you will. Here is an illustration of the first F150 model offered here in the US. It has a fuel cooler. Fuel coolers and associated hoses/fittings/tubes/etc. have been known to become clogged. Either the water side or the fuel side. Is yours working correctly?

Good question. Easiest thing might be to look for the presence of the charcoal cannister at the back of the motor. Should be right below the mechanical fuel pump. See below:

no it will not fix a problem with cranking(turning) motor.

But it might help a motor start if there is a problem with fuel boiling to cause an over rich condition if that is what your problem is.

And as was stated it is no longer available in a kit

You can call Yamaha for a list of kit components, by part number, that are needed for your particular motor. Then, see what the price of those parts are at this website.

Do you not think it strange that for the first nine years of the life of your motor that the kit was not needed but now it is?

i have had boat and motor two years this problem has always been there i just put up with it after yeasterday i need it fix just a bad day on lake

How about trying rodbolts suggestion of cranking the motor with the throttle half open. See if it starts more quickly. Be prepared to bring the throttle back to idle as soon as the motor lights off.

Terminology has always been an issue on forums, things like cranking mean different things to different people, this particular post seems to think cranking is actually starting, not turning over via the starter, there is a lot of things posted that confuse people who want to offer advice.
