I had a weak water stream and disconnected the hose from the pee hole to the water jacket. The hole in the block had white corrosion built up in it. I cleaned it out with a piece of wire and the stream was much better. Can I pull the thermostat and pour something into the water jacket to clean out the corrosion? Thanks.

In a motor that old it's probably a good idea to just pull the head and do a complete cleanout. I've found that CLR does a good job of loosening up the mineral buildup without damaging the metal. Use a toothbrush to scrub after the CLR has loosened it up.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean pull the exhaust covers or the cylinder head? I'm worried about snapping bolts because it's never been apart. Should I use heat on the bolts?
