  • Which Grease?

    Hey,

My owners manual says to grease the various point and nipples with 'Yamaha Waterproof Grease A' - anybody know what that is?

I can't seem to find it to buy anywhere.....

    Engine is 1994 90hp 2 stroke '90A'

    Cheers

Mercury makes a good grease called 2-4-C…..maybe Bondo will chime in here with his thoughts on grease!!!

One of the things with grease and a certain formulation (with teflon, without teflon, etc, etc) is where it can be used and where it can't be used. For the areas you're talking about, it really doesn't matter. HOWEVER, a number of years ago Mercury came out with a grease called "Extreme" - and it can be used EVERYWHERE. That's all I've been using for a while now, along with the techs at the shop where I work part time.

Lots of frequent mediocre grease is better than none of the best grease.

Grease for steering should be true marine grease, (Triple Guard is one of the best) very different to trailer bearing grease, two different products required for long term maintenance, use bearing grease or cheap water proof grease in the tilt tube or swivel bracket (steering) and some time down the track you will be posting about stiff steering and how to get the concrete hard crap out!
