Hey all. Might be kind of a obvious answer here, but Would something like this be caused by a CDI unit running hot? Anyone ever seen one melt this bad before? I can’t imagine it’s anything from the intake causing this right?

The air cooled rectifier/regulator below the CDI is known to ignite and damage the CDI but from what I can see the R/R is not damaged.

I would think motor temp that high would toast the motor.
and I have never heard of a CDI or Ecu overheat that bad before
is this an ECU or CDI motor

From what I can see it looks like the CDI lit up. Hot air flow into the intake silencer appears to have partially melted the inlet to the silencer. Somewhat in line with the CDI assembly.

R/R looks pristine. Usually it is the R/R that lights up and damages the CDI. Or ECU. Depending upon the model.

Yamaha is weak at providing diagrams that show why R/R power is provided to the CDI and what is going on inside. Damn if I can find anything.

Being that the R/R looks new, im wondering if it lit up on the previous owner and this is old news. Im just shocked I never noticed it until now
