  • Engine Compatability?

I have bought a new to me boat. It has a 1994 Yamaha 250. I also have a 2002 F225. The question is, are these engines compatible? Could I take off the old 250 and replace it with the F225? Are the harnesses the same for both motors? Will the Yamaha gauges work with the F225? Thanks, first time poster that just joined.

All of the rigging stuff is compatible between the two models. That is, it will be plug and play.

The one exception might be the tachometer if it does not have a setting for both a two stroke and a four stroke model.

      no,
only the 10 pin engine harness will work.
you will need either a new trim/oil alarm harness or the adapters.
1994 and older stuff used round connectors. 1995 and up used square connectors.

I think that you are off by a year.

1993 and earlier engines used round trim/oil connectors. 1994 and later use square trim/oil connectors.

Ten pin main engine harness is the same for all models.

I think the change was in the 95 production run.
