  • New charge coil/stator?

Hi all...Resistance test for my charge coil is way outside of spec. Is that reason enough to order a new stator assembly? Yamaha is 2008 90 2 stroke

Motor gets to about 4800 rpm and then quickly drops down to mid 2000's. Restart motor and happens again but each time I get to fewer RPMs before it drops. Eventually it stops going over 2500 and runs crappy, sneezes, stalls. Thinking high speed coils? Happened immediately after spring recommissioning.

    ruled out fuel supply/pump/filters
Oil level and thermo switch alarms are working
    Carbs rebuilt last year
    Gets spark fine at idle.

Pulser coil is within resistance specs. Tested both at their respective harnesses. I have a DVA adapter but I don't see a way to test peak voltage without the special testing harness.

Even if charge coil isn't THE problem, I'm still getting 83 ohms at the brown-red test and shop manual says 191-288.

    Cheers and thanks in advance.

take a couple of small paper clips or other small stiff wire and slide them up inside the wire connectors without harming the wire or connector insulation.
I used stick pins that I dulled and smoothed the end on to keep from punching into the insulation

Thank you. I'm not getting notifications so I'm just seeing this now.

The connectors on these wires are hard plastic with 2 or 3 pins inside.

Point is somewhat moot....I pulled and rebuilt the carbs (twice)and that was the problem.
