Is it necessary to flush the motor with the ear muffs or can you use just use the hose connection yamaha has on the motor?? A friend was telling me the ear muffs were a better way to flush the motor.

I think using the earmuffs is better. Run the motor long enough for the thermostats to fully open (5-10) minutes. This way you are certain that all of the water pump/jackets have been flushed thoroughly.
