  • try a new prop?

    Yamaha f70 on a 20' pontoon. RPM range 5300-63000 for the F70.
I tried a 14x9 solas amita 3 last year and got 6000rpms. But I bent an ear and now have my Yamaha pontoon series 14x11 on again and get 5300rpms. this is with just me on the boat. 11 pitch gets me 22mph and solas 9 got me 20. Prop was cheap that's why I tried the Solas.

talking with ken of propgods and he suggested the powertech wbx 14x10. powertech person suggested the wbh 14x9 and it is supposed to mirror the Yamaha pontoon series but supposedly has slightly more cupping but less cupping than the wbx prop.

my tach was wrong when I bought the boat. said 11 pitch was spinning 6300 so when I bent the stock prop I got that steel Yamaha in 11 pitch. Since getting a new Yamaha tach and rpms being confirmed by dealers computer im stuck being over propped slightly. I get 5000rpms with 3 people on board with the 11 pitch. Ken of propgods has a good rep from what I can see on forums, but I am curious of what yall think would be good to look into before I drop another 400 or so on another prop.

    thanks
    chris

    props

you hit the nail on the head with the solas prop !! when you say you bent a blade,, I assume you hit something right ?? BTW,, SOLAS = safety of life at sea....yes I'm a REEL USCG captain

have you thought about having your props reworked instead of buying new?
They can straighten bent ones and take out some cup one the other.

I would take the advice of the prop guys better than someone here.
Might try a pontoon forum maybe to find others that are running a rig like yours

        Now thats just rude

I've been dealing with props longer than most "prop kings" saw there first boat and will let that rude remark slide as I understand that you don't!!

          400 prop

BTW,,you need to stay with beer can (alum) props till you find the majic number....and on that type of vessel your test runs will dictate 3/4 in's of prop lower for a real load
