Tomorrow if the wind calms down somewhat I'll be going with my father to get the boat and bring it home and start toubleshooting for broken cables, loose plugs, shorts and replacing the battery cables that I already ask to be made..

One question, To solder or not to solder the battery cable terminals? the terminals they put on the cables aren't closed at the end at least they put the shrinkwarp tubing but forgot to heat shrink it..

USCG regulations prohibit a solder joint alone.
must be crimped first.

if a relay or a solenoid buzzs its called chatter and typically caused by low relay supply voltage.
what your hearing is a rapid closing then opening due to when it closes voltage drops and the contacts open. as soon as the contacts open enough voltage is present to close them again.

same principle the old alarm horns used.

if you lost cranking,pumps and trim at the same time its a no brainer.
go fix the voltage supply lines.
also called batteries and battery cables and associated switch's.

If one does not understand voltage, voltage drop, relays, circuit diagrams, theory of operation, etc., it is all but impossible to provide an understanding of same to them via snippets in posts.

Yes , but when it is not physically available in front you , it may be harder to interpret all of it fully.
I think he said college student, what I said this needs to be learned.
The resources we are first born with are to rely on your instincts and trial and error.
If you didn't start out life this I betcha no amount tutoring would make you top of the class.
So you may have to prompt a point several times!!

I deal with techs every day that cannot interpret a test lamp nor a volt meter but they have been doing this 15+ years.

I also watch them struggle and cures and wrongly replace switch's and pumps.

stick the knife in between the second and third rib.

its their motor, their money.

I said "Sir" and "please" and "thanks", so if you believe that is being rude it was maybe because either You had a bad day or you can't properly read and interprete a sentence! That is definetely not on me!



Yeah, I am 28 years old and I just finished my Masters degree in college in mechanical engineering! that I paid on my own with no loans or I would've finished at least 2 years ago! in which time I also got my 6G TIG pipe welding degree!

I ASKED: "Boscoe, would you be kind enough" if he had a relay he could measure for the voltage drops, continuity and resistance so I could measure my own relay!
He said he did not have one and He said he was, and I quote "Not sure what that would indicate to you anyway" and doesn't know what that'll tell me... but I do! it's basically how I paid for college, because I've been fixing motorcycles and rally cars almost 14years now!
Boscoe: one more thing... In case you didn't notice the pin numbering on both the pictures you posted don't even match!


About the "apply 12v" to the t/t motor to the skyblue, sure, AWESOME! You do know that to complete a circuit you need a ground right? or should I should I just chinch the ground cable between my teeth?

Also, I've said I had ordered to a shop to make me new battery cables and that they crimped open terminals on the ends and I asked you guys here if I should or should not solder those crimps that have already been crimped and then slide the heatshrink over and apply heat!

an anganeer cannot figure out a simple two wire permanent magnet DC motor?
where in the heet ya think the ground is.
a hint its the OTHER wire.

most engineers should be forced to two additional years in the field as a tech before that sheepskin is issued.

a relay is a simple coil of wire.
pass a current through it and its now a magnet.
then that magnet pulls a contactor and completes the other circuit.
no wiring diagram needed just common sense.

but your chasing ghosties and hunting bunnies.
why not simply do a voltage drop test on the 12V supply???

forget your degree and use a bit o common sense.

Barcardi, my intent was not to offend you. It was really to help you get your motor fixed in the best way possible and for you to learn a thing or two about it while doing so. In the scheme of life there is much much more that any of us don't know as opposed to what we do know. We all have to learn and keep on learning. My belief, based on your responses, indicated to me that you did not have the prerequisite knowledge to fully understand what was being said. Words are hard. Just like if you started to explain some post graduate mechanical engineering stuff to me, my eyes would glaze over and I would not have a clue what you were talking about. You would soon realize that, hell Boscoe does not understand basic math let alone fourth year mechanical engineering. He needs to go find someone he can talk to and who can explain it all in person.

OK. Let's start over. I will try and have more patience. Patience is not a virtue of mine.

It appears to me that you might have the service manual. Is that correct?

A relay is not supposed to "buzz". If it does it can mean that the relay is bad, or more likely, as Rodbolt indicated, you have a voltage supply issue to the relay.

There is a diagram in the service manual that shows the routing of the wires to the main relay. Can you find that diagram and then follow the circuit all of the way from the battery to the relay? I would use the SM as a guide so that all connection points on the motor can be inspected so as to verify they are in good working order.

The trim issue is a related but separate circuit. The fact that you appear to be having a power supply issue to both the main relay and the trim system at the same time indicates a circuit problem some where.
