  • Is a standard 8hp enough for a 21ft 3500lb boat?

Looking to add a *****ing motor mainly for slow *****ing and a kicker for a 2120 parker. There's an 06 8hp locally that I'm considering, would this be sufficient?

Was hoping for a ht 9.9 but nothings popped up lately

You might want to put larger jets in the carbs. And a 4 pitch prop might git her to proper rpm.

Didn't know of such ting on the jets, I think I'm better off holding out for a better suitable motor.

On the same note, what if it's a standard thrust 9.9? 2hp doesn't seem like it'll make a dent but I've seen lots of 9.9 vs the 8 on similarly sized boats.

The 8 will be OK. 9.9 is 25% more power so obviously better, though. But the 8 will get you around just fine. Buy the 8 and use it... if you still want more get a 9.9 when it becomes available and resell the 8. You should be able to sell the 8 for the same price you paid.

High thrust motors have diffent gearing so you can turn a larger low pitch prop and still get the motor RPMs up where they should be
not sure how well that 8 hp regular motor will handle it
