disconnecting stubborn shift rod from bottom to change impeller 4 stroke

I’ve read where there issues disconnecting the shift rod but did not find a corrective action. The top shifter turns but then I’ve run in nut is flush with bottom. The rod is in neutral How far does this coupling nut have to go before a “ disconnect” is accomplished? thanks

no one but you knows what motor you are talking about.

most shift rods that turn are splined shafts ,not threaded.
threaded one push and pull

looks like a push/pull.
did you try putting the motor in reverse to see if that gives you the room to disconnect it properly

Two nuts. Coupler nut and jam nut.

Put the motor into forward or reverse. Whichever allows better access to the nuts. Usually in reverse.

Looks to be a non-USA model. If I am seeing it right, the coupling nut is on top and the jam nut is on the bottom. Just barely loosen the jam nut. So that the coupling nut can be screwed upwards until the shift linkages disconnect.

Remove the lower unit. Taking great care not to mess with the shift mechanisms on either side.

Install the lower unit. Run the coupling nut back down connecting both linkages. Just to the point where the jam nut is. Hold the coupling nut while tightening the jam nut against the coupling nut.

As I recall the coupler is about an inch long. Maybe a tad more.
