My tach is stopping every time the motor reaches 3000rpms on my my tach and if you take it out of gear then go back in gear it resets it self and goes back to around 8000 I'm not very good at wiring. Any suggestions?

You may try removing, cleaning, greasing and tightening the wire connections on the back of the tachometer....they can have corrosion and/or be loose, causing poor signals....if that doesn't fix it you may need a new one...
