Yamaha 703 side control box - wireless kill switch wiring

Hi there!

I'm interested in installing a Fell Marine MOB+ wireless kill switch for my F70 with a 703 side control box.

I'm not familiar yet with my 703? How easy is it to access the wiring for the kill switch?

Do I need to remove the whole unit? Then remove the back panels?

Any chance of my screwing up the shift or throttle cabling in the process?

Anyone done this?

Yes.

Interesting.
I'm very familiar with the MOB install and the standard Yamaha keyswitch (for 704 control)
but those wires are 'hanging out in the breeze' behind the console.

Thinking about it, the 703 presents a challenge;
how to get the MOB wires "into there"

Personally, I would remove the existing Yamaha switch -
"nobody uses it anyway"
and find an appropriate sized rubber grommet
to take its place/feed the wires for the MOB through.

Although I suppose you could drill a hole through the 703 side plate
(and potentially the boat surface it is mounted against)
and run the wires in from the 'blind side'
(again, with a grommet to protect them from abrasion)

The existing switch connects with standard bullet connectors -
so easy to swap in matching bullets on the end of your new wires -
if you want to keep the existing switch wired in,
it may be a little challenging to fit the extra wire of 'y-connector' bits.

I don't think you need to worry about "screwing anything up"

There are several youtube videos relating to the 703 -
showing much more involved disassembly that you will need to do -

but they should give you some confidence
and provide a reference of how things come apart and go back together
