  • F250 running hot?? 1st post. Looking for help.

I have a 2006 f250 yamaha 4stroke with 609 hours. This motor is new to me as I purchased it used a few weeks back. . I was told by a local yamaha dealer the digital temp, volt and oil pressure indicators on the gauges should stay in the center (3rd position out of 5) when the boat is warned up and running. I have the round gauges and the temp oil and volts have 5 positions. . My temp moves up to the 4th position after running it at higher rpm's. Is this normal and/or acceptable? Thermostats and water impeller (not the entire housing) was just changed. No alarms and the engine runs good. It's on my Parker 25'. I've been slowing down -way down and she goes down in temp to the 3rd position. Hasn't happened idiling. Water stream seems week but again, this motor us new to me. Thanks for the help.
    Thanks for the help.
    Chris.

Dealer told you wrong. Some CL gauges show the temperature bar in the middle. Some show it to the right of the middle. Some show it to the far right of the middle. Even if the bar was pegged far to the right hand side the motor can be a long way from over heating.

Call ten Yam dealers and you can get 15 answers.

If the warning horn is not sounding and if the motor is not going into RPM reduction mode then you do not have a problem.

There is a reason that some manufacturers use warning lights only. Too much information in the form of a needle and dial can be disconcerting to some users.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into buying the diagnostic software and cord.

look through your command link book.
I think the round gauge can be configured to show temp in degrees.

my square gauge can on my F150.

most the sliding bar indicators, including mine, tend to run about 4 bars to the right when up and running.

Thanks. I have the square gauges, do you know if they have temp in degrees? My gauges have 5 bars. I'm told it should stay at the 3rd bat - it moves into the 4th after running for a while.

You were told wrongly. Can't believe what you hear or read these days. So much useless information. Hard to discern the good from the bad.

Thanks for all the info. I'm going to leave it as is and hope for no alarms

look through your command link book. I am almost positive it can be configured to display in degrees.

I cant remember how out of memory but there are about 16 display configurations in the square tach.

Here is a link to the square gauge. I can't find anything about the display indicating temperature in degrees.

                  http://yamahaoutboards.com/sites/def...8Square%29.pdf

If it did, I can see an owner complaining that his motor used to run at 175 degrees F, but it now runs at 176 degrees F, so there must be something wrong with it.

Yep. Mechanic now owes the customer a new motor, or so the customer thinks.

I bet a mechanic could replace a bow light on a boat and still be blamed for the motor now "not sounding right".

I get it all the time, especially on expensive repairs.
                        it never did that before.
