Yamaha Gauge Question

I've had to replace the gauges on my '95 225 TXRT as the old ones weren't visible. Now, my question is this: the tach shows 542 hours, is this the actual amount of hours on my engine or the hours on the previous engine (the gauges were used and the boat was purchased used and I had NO idea the amount of hours- by looking at it...very few).

Thank you sir! Is there anyway possible to get actual engine hours off of this engine? (I'm guessing not...since the ECU doesn't log hours???)

if i had to disconnect my yamaha hour meter would it reset or does it keep the hours logged permanently?
