  • Really Bad Yamaha Service - Help

I have a good friend that is retired and he spends most of his days fishing for catfish on the Santee Cooper lakes. His 2014 70HP Yamaha four stroke would not crank about a month ago and so he took it to a dealer in Moncks Corner. The dealer indicated a bolt had come loose and ruined the motor. The dealer contacted Yamaha and they spent about a week determining they would honor their warranty. The dealer was informed that the powerhead would be shipped out the next day or so; however, a week later, still no parts. My buddy then called Yamaha and talked to their regional customer service rep and was informed that the parts would ship out next day. Another week passes and still no parts. My buddy again calls and is informed parts will ship that day. Another week passes and still no parts at the dealership. Four weeks now and not a single part has been shipped to the dealer.

Yesterday, my buddy was extremely frustrated and asked to speak to the customer service reps supervisor. The rep indicated he could not do that. My buddy then called every Yamaha number he could find on the internet looking for someone that would attend to this problem. Each Yamaha person he spoke to referred to him to the original rep and the original rep still would not allow him to speak to anyone else about the situation.

As of right now, my buddy has no idea when his powerhead will arrive as he has been lied to repeatedly by Yamaha.

My buddy bought a Yamaha because he thought it was a quality moror, but with less than 100 hours on it the motor crapped out. Yamaha then lied to him repeatedly about when the parts would arrive in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He is so frustrated he simply does not know what to do.

Can anyone recommend any further recourse with Yamaha; they appear to have forgotten how to provide any measure of customer service - at least in the South East region.

    Thanks,

    Dan

Very bad thing for the 1st post on a web site to run down a company and you have no idea what went wrong with the motor to inform any of us of what happened to destroy a motor.

and you are giving nothing but second hand info about what someone else may have done.

This site is not Yamaha itself, just a site that sells parts for lots of different motors and has a forum to help with motor problems on them too.

Hope some one can help you, but if calling Yamaha USA #s then that is all we can hope to give you

Let's make haste a bit slower.

Yamaha usually issues a warranty claim the same day as the dealer provides them with all pertinent information. When did the dealer do this?

Once a warranty claim has been authorized the dealer orders the required parts. Shipment from Yamaha in Georgia to SC takes about two days if we are talking about a power plant.

One thing comes to mind. If a dealer owes money to Yamaha then that dealer may be placed on a credit hold. Yamaha will not send any more parts to that dealer until he has paid his bills. This then is a dealer issue, not a Yamaha issue.

Call Yamaha Customer Support again with the engine ID. Ask if the dealer has ordered the parts. Ask if the parts have shipped. They should be able to give you a tracking number for the carrier that has the parts.

If parts are on back order and have to come from Japan then ask the fellow to check and let you know when they are expected to arrive in Georgia.

Ask them to give you a list of the parts that the dealer has ordered and then let us have the list of parts. I can check and tell you if they are in stock or not.

I don't think you and your buddy have the complete story.

It's not a bad thing at all to run down very poor customer service. The fact remains that the Yamaha motor with less than a hundred hours and still under warranty has not been repaired and the powerhead has not been shipped in well over a month and no information has been given on when the powerhead will arrive, if ever.

I suspect you fellas would feel differently if you were in this postion. I guess this is just dandy customer service to those that apparently have a love affair with Yamaha.

I was referred to this site because I was told someone on this site might know how to figure out how to get Yamaha off their duff to make something happen for my friend, but instead I get blasted for bringing up a customer service problem.

          slidellkid,

I know you and your friend are frustrated with what appears to be poor customer service on Yamaha Corp.'s part.

However, boscoe99 offered some solid advice. Have you had an opportunity to check w/ Yamaha to see if there's a past due payment issue w/ the dealer that is precluding Yamaha from shipping parts to the dealer?

If that isn't the issue, then Yamaha should be more forthcoming with information on shipping status.

          Jeff

I would like to know what bolt backed out and ruined the motor
              also how it ruined it

If it will not crank( turn over) does that mean it locked up solid?

my bet is the guy on THT will find out for you what is holding up the shipment
