Question about dropping lower unit

With my F115, it was recommended to shift into forward gear before dropping the lower unit. I'm about to change the impeller on my C90. Should I shift into gear, or leave it in neutral?

Shifter

I always do mine in neutral, but you can do it in forward or reverse. The main thing to remember is not to move the shifter or shift shaft on the lower unit once it has been removed or it wont line up when you re-install it.
