  • yamaha 300 hpdi stalling help

I have a 2005 yamaha 300 hpdi. A few months ago I was out on the water, and got into shallow water. When I tilted the motor up, it coughed and stalled out. Put the motor back down, and started back up and was on my way with no problems. The next time I went out about a month later, motor was running great. Again got into shallow water, so I tilted up and it stalled out again. This time would not restart. I am hoping to look at it over the weekend, and am wondering if anybody could suggest where to start. The motor cranks fine, so I am guessing it is fuel related. It cranks and cranks. Just sounds like no fuel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Monitor fuel pressures to see if it is fuel related

I have access to yds software and plug, but where should I start to get it to start again? I am assuming that I need to have it running to monitor pressure.

that motor will pretty much run upside down.
I would look for why the pumps wont supply fuel OR are you losing the 12V key on power signal to the ECU.

Is it possible that the vst float is getting stuck up when tilted?

I think Rodbolt answered that above. (ie; no)

My guess would be when tilting up electrical wiring or fuel line is moving around and causing air leak or bad electrical connection.
              Just a guess

Update. Spent a few hours tinkering yesterday afternoon. Vst is getting fuel, and has power going to the pump. Pulled the spark plugs. They looked wet. Went to auto parts store, and picked up a spark tester. Gave that a shot, and discovered that they are not firing. Tested all 6, and got no spark on any. Not sure what to look for now. Must be electrical. Could it be a bad pulser? I am clueless. Thanks for any help/feedback.

do you have 12V to the ign coil primaries?
remember this is a 12V TCI system not anything like the older CDI systems.

if the injectors are spraying the odds are high all 6 pulser coils did not fail.
if one does you get a code 13.

Look for loose wiring /connection. Tilt motor up and down and look for stretching and any tight pulling conflicting connections. Something is loose in the wiring would be my guess..

I was not able to get to it this weekend, but we did try to hook the computer to it. Was getting error that was unable to communicate with motor. Is it possible that the ecu isn't getting power hence the plugs not firing? If so, can someone let me know how to see if the ecu is getting power, and possibly what to do. Thank you so much. Funding is really tight right now so really hoping to figure this one out, and not having to take it to someone.
