Charging system on my 06 25 hp 2 stoke

Added a volt gauge to my boat and had 17 bolts at full throttle
seemed high to me
put In a new regulator with same results
any thoughts?

have you tried measuring the voltage with another hand held meter to see if they agree on voltage?

but would the regulator control that voltage better, or is this RR just a rectifier and not also a regulator

would the service manual give specs for just minimum and not max?

Parts catalog shows it as just a rectifier. No voltage control.

You could try an aftermarket R/R and see the results.

I measured voltage with hand held meter and get same reading as volt meter on boat.
I did try an aftermarket reg like I originally posted with same readings.
Just thought I would try to get some feedback about this issue

Are you sure that you installed an R/R and not just a rectifier? Does it look like this?

that picture is of a rectifier, not a rectifier/regulator

Second picture looks like a bridge rectifier, but has regulator written on it. The first has 5 wires. How can we really tell?

We tend to think a regulator should be more than a zenor diode that shuts current to ground.
A more sophisticated regulator still will use a zenor diode to sense voltage, the difference being a transistor or triac/thyrister and associated components are added to block current flow and therefore doesn’t waste the excess current.

from what I understand Yamaha does shunt excess current to ground to control voltage
