    filters

most screw on filters should be installed with whip of finger with any motor oil and that includes fuel/waterseperators..its easy to tell when taking apart if it got oil or not.....Im now seen the center threads on W/S rusting from ethanol...YIKES !!

threads rust, metal bowls rust/corrode from the inside. aluminium filter heads corrode.
gotta love the marine technician stimulus fuels that the Bush era gave us.

but I made my share of the stimulus money

its not the "obamians" whatever that is.
its the 52 or so ethanol producers wanting more subsidy money.
I wonder how many of the DC crowd are getting rich off this scam?

have you looked at how heavily subsidized E fuels are.
costs us twice, once at tax time and then at the pump.
and it tears up anything that you feed it to.

however its what we have and maybe one day the EPA will wake up and take the E out of gasoline and leave it to Baccardi and evan Williams .

in the meantime we just try to deal with what we have and keep stuff running.

            both ways

Well if not he "Obamians" then not the "Bush era" either...can't have it both ways.
Ethanol has been making the oil companies richer since the days of Henry Ford...just the concentrations getting higher.
Hey make something you can bolt to a boat that removes the ethanol (not a fuel additive) and make a fortune. Maybe some sort of canister that has a chemical in it that absorbs the ethanol but lets the gas pass (lol)...a "molecular sieve" if you will. They can do it with oxygen ...why not with a liquid?
I'll sign up for the first cannister.

remove the e and your octane heads south and is not good for these motors

actually, water is very good at removing the ethanol.
however the fuel left is worthless.
ethanol and methanol are both given a 100 octane rating, its an arbitrary rating since you can't raise compression high enough to make it detonate.
so to keep the octane rating in the upper 80's the base fuel stock octane rating is somewhere around 80 before the ethanol is added.

What are you saying? That with 100 octane detonation is not possible?

no, I am saying its an arbitrary rating as Alcohol cannot be made to detonate in the cylinder.
its why using methanol and nitro methane we can still use NOs and 13.5-15-1 compression ratios.

the engineers had to do something so they simply pegged it at 100.

but just as ethanol, methanol ate fuel bowls, fuel pumps, fuel lines and needles and seats.
couple that with it takes right at twice the fuel using alcohol for the same amount of air and you see why it drops your fuel mileage.

this scam was started about 2006 and has been perpetuated ever since.
its kinda like the temporary housing units built in the Norfolk/Portsmouth Va area during WWII that is still in use today.

once something gets in the govt its very hard to get rid of it.
                        to much money involved.

the Chesapeake/Norfolk area got the E fuels in 07,we got it about june 08.

                        talk about issues.
poor guys would top off here with MTBE fuel on top of their existing 1/2 tank of E fuel and it would run 30 min.

-The bowls are frozen onto the housing period.
-The consensus among many is that it is due to ethanol.
-Freezing the whole thing to get it off didn't work.
-There is an updated bowl from Yamaha.
-They are paying to have them installed.
I drove my boat to the marina (via water) and they handed me the new bowl (and of course, put in a claim for the installation(which is fine). My set up is a bit different and apparently wasn't nearly as bad as your set up.

Can you operate the boat down there or is it currently leaking?

Worse case scenerio, pull off the two entire assemblies, base and all, take a pic or two of the hull, the serial #'s of the engines and bring those parts down there.

They can install the new bowls, claim the installation warranty charge and your NOT dropping hundreds to tow the boat down. Pick up some new fuel line "ties", re-install and your good to go..

                            Nope

Thanks Scott but I asked if I could do that very thing and they said no...THEY had to do it.
It makes it a real PIA but it's the only way (I guess) to get the cups free from Yamaha.
                            Thanks

Gubment had to get rid of lead.. causing lead poisoning, so lets use MTBE to get octane back, now they find out it causes cancer , lets get rid of that and replace it with methyl alcohol aka Ethanol, oops that causes engine and mechanical failures but its safe???? so we think.. Ethanol (alcohol) was the original fuels used for automobiles when invented. It was Rockefeller who built an empire on the cheaper fuel called gasoline..lead was added to boost octane and cushion valve seats.. Many get rich in this country and its all a **** with the players..Same as professional sports..Its a just another **** for the players to make money.
