Just hooked up the tach using the green wire for pulse. When running I can only get 2800 rpm. Motor seems to be running strong. I set the tach switch to 6. That's what I saw in the book I have. Is this correct. It's the tach that was in my boat dash already.

Its either a 6 pole or a twelve pole. Check your setting. After trying both then I would go to a dealer and ask if they have a test teach you could borrow.

The motor requires a 6 POLE setting on tach. If it not a Yamaha tach the settings may be for PULSE, if so then set it on 3 pulse
