C60 TLRY lower unit making some clicking noise in neutral while idleing

Turns out the top spacers I rigged up to use the prop shaft and nut to pull the carrier had a hole too small for the splines to fit through.
That was what was stopping me from pulling it down far enough to pop the carrier out.

So finally got it apart with out using heat and burning any paint off.

Pulled the gear and bearing out of carrier and bearing was feeling not smooth when rolled by hand after cleaning it all up.
Need to replace that bearing also while I have it apart.
Is there any reason not to use a 6207 bearing from local Auto parts store instead of the $30 Yamaha bearing?

I can pop the seals out of one they sell for a transfer case, seems under oil it should not matter.
Any thoughts on this?

Never mind My brother told me to just order all the parts from Yamaha so there will be no question about difference in who made what out of what

Was that the only damage, the worn bearing and the twisted shifter shaft?

Shift shaft and the pin(#48) that runs through the shift (dog,) clutch and prop shaft were both bent. cannot see anything else damaged.

and now you know, the next time the old random thought generator says shift it without turning the prop shaft or drive shaft just say no.

Yea, I know better and I am fairly sure my brother knows better,
but the 2 owners of that motor before him, I am not too sure about.
Someone had tried adjusting the linkage instead of fixing it properly


I need to take a pic of the set up I used to pull the prop shaft and carrier just to let others see it if they ever need to try to get one out.
Maybe later this afternoon I will get a chance to do that.

Here are a couple of pics showing the plywood and then spacers used to pop the carrier out.
I used the splined spacer from prop shaft to hold shaft from turning with a pipe wrench. I will need to clean it up a little where the wrench bit into it, but should not hurt anything

Finally got the parts in and put it together today,
no more clicking in neutral
