  • 50HP Rattle under Flywheel

RE: 2002 50TLRB, 500 Hrs. At idle pronounced rattle under flywheel. Seems to fade as RPM increases. I just went through this thread but there was no conclusion or remedy for the problem. It was helpful for removing the flywheel. Any ideas please? Loose magnet? Upper crankshaft bearing bad? Pretty low hours for that.

    Can you post an audio/video?

I suspect you'll be pulling the flywheel for a peek...

The FSM has puller p/n YB-06117. Is this a generic puller available from any auto parts store or is it specialized? Thanks...

Did a search, couldn't find one..

What/how does the manual have you remove the flywheel?

If the Yamaha manual calls for that puller, then it will be a Yamaha part number.

most flywheel pullers use bolts into threaded holes in the flywheel, so make sure you do not screw them in too far and end up hitting and damaging coils or other things under there

I would pull the flywheel and inspect.
that much noise should leave a mark on something.
could be a magnet coming loose and RPM slings it farther outward so it is not hitting as bad

              Just a guess

Thanks. I'm also thinking a magnet. How are they attached and can they be re-attached or does something have to be replaced?

I do not know the answer to those questions.

But it is best to find out what the problem is before looking for a fix

It's warmed up and I'm attempting to pull the flywheel. There are three bolts going through the top of flywheel and can't think of what they may be holding. Wondering if they are provided jack bolts to remove the flywheel. Any ideas? Not shown in the FSM. Thanks

if manual calls for that puller, then those are not for jacking the flywheel off
