1995 8hp 2 stroke 8MSHT - Need some help with new to me motor

HI,

I just bought a jon boat with the 8 hp Yamaha 2 stroke, 8MSHT model, 1995. It has been garage kept but not run in 3 years.
I am looking for info on how to tune up and evaluate. Maybe a checklist or tuneup procedure.
I am new to outboards but have rebuilt car motors and am fairly handy.

Any info is appreciated.

1st thing I would do on a new to me 25 year old motor would be check compression, spark, and timing.
then check fuel pump and water pump
clean carbs and filter
change plugs

or run it to see how it was running

Looking for a manual for this motor. I bought the Yamaha Marine 6T/8T manual. LIT-18616-01-21.
When looking in the 'how to use this manual' section it refers to models 8CM and 8CEM. Not sure how this compares to my 8MSHT. Wondering if I bought the wrong manual.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. I got the right one, just not sure what the 8CM or 8CEM mean in the manual. I think I have the 8CM and the 8CEM is electric start.
