I have a genuine yamaha repair manual for a 1991 225 and it doesn't show any voltage readings for cps, stators etc. Everything is resistance checks. Is there a different manual or due to age of the motor my info is deprived?

You can google for CDI troubleshooting guide 7th edition. It has all of the voltage specs an how to measure. You will need a DVA voltage adapter to measure peak voltage, you cannot use a multi-meter. You can build your own DVA adapter or buy one. If you are just measuring resistance, you need an old style analog meter, or at least that was the only kind I could get readings close on the CDI itself to the specs. I recently went through this for a 1989 150 just to confirm everything was in good shape. It turned out I had 2 faulty ignition coils, replace with OEM coils and all is good now. I can say the DVA adapter did confirm I was getting the correct voltage to the coils.

I have a fluke 87v. It has peak min/max isn't that the same as having a dva?
