  • sudden stalling 225

    HI ,
I have a 225 txrp 1991. Was out today and the and abruptly stalled. I pulled the cowling and played with some wiring and it started, later stalled again. The two fuse holders were full of moisture. I cleaned and it started. Than later it stalled again. Its just abruptly stalled. No sign or rough running. I could crank and it won't start, than 2 seconds later try again and it starts. I got home and cleaned more and redid the splice for the main 30 amp fuse. Still stalling. Im thinking possibly cdi issue. Any advice? The cdi isn't even available anymore if thats the problem.
    thanks!

Might check all connectors under the hood as in R&R, maybe some dielectric grease, etc.

Any idea why / how all that moisture got in there?

A spark tester, when cranking and won't start, may help narrow down the issue..

I'm not sure. I think just age. I ordered new blade style blue seas holder to update it. Im going to go through it tomorrow. Definitely seems like a loose connection or cdi. Maybe loose ground I saw in diagram for cdi. It didnt seem to have spark but I need to check better.

Should have mentioned earlier, check all grounds too. Not just look, but R&R, make sure their tight, etc..

        Good luck..

I went through the harness through out the engine today. Repaired one broken ground. Ohmed stator and coils out according to manual. Crank sensor ohmed out with in spec. Still stalls. No spark, I verified that. Its just random stalling like shutting the key off. I also checked the ignition switch for shits and giggles.. i dunno.

I gather the "safety CLIP" is installed fully in the ignition switch?

Might pull it out fully and slip it back in. That switch activated would kill spark but allow cranking...

I checked its operation. I was thinking that too

So, with the yellow bypass wire disconnected it starts right up. If i plug it in while its running it stalls. I had it running while it was plugged in and tapped the cdi. It stalled. Maybe a bad solder joint or coincidence. Going to try to duplicate that again, unless someone has any other advice?
