1997 Yamaha C90 2 Stroke Head Cover Question

Head cover in picture shows what appears to be a rubber type plug I assume is used to divert cooling water around glider more evenly. I know this common on Mercury OB's bit don't know about Yamaha. Thew bottom cylinder was the only one that had one. Did not see any in the block.

Are these common?

Are you sure it is not just a piece of rubber water pump impeller that made it up into the head?

I did not see any in my C40TLRX 3 cylinder when I pulled it apart and put back together last month.
But that does not mean it is the same as your 3 cylinder

I did see some of them in the old 35 Johnnyrude 2 cylinder I had apart, think they were in the block not the head

No its not rubber from a water pump impeller. Didn't see any others in block or head cover.

it IS rubber from a failed impeller.
Yamaha never used any diverters in that motor.

find the pieces.
at one time or another that motor had a shredded impeller.
