  • Command Link won't come out of Maintence

I have F90TLR, that's 2006. This has the square tach. When I start the motor up the scrolling message "Maintenance 100H" keeps scrolling by. I've looked in the manual and did what it said to reset. No matter what I do I can't get rid of the message. The local Yama dealer says it needs to be replaced.

It seems like the mode and set buttons may be defective but, when pushed, they feel normal (like speed-fuel).

I'm thinking that one of the master techs might say something like short pin x to piny and all will be fine.

No master tech needed here. The manual left out a key step.

Following this link to the video about this matter, follow it, and I bet it will work.

B99...next to brilliant or knows the secret sequence

      This fixed the issue.

The important step is too press the mode after the ignition is turned on. I have been trying for days to reset, called 2 marine dealers and nobody had the answer. Thought I would have to replace gauge which is $$$.

      Thanks...B99.

One would think that Yamaha would correct a known mistake in their manual. Unfortunately, it has not and won't happen.

for an xtwa 10 dollars we can install the green button .

if all your doing is pushing the mode button the maint flash will return.

the buttons are touchy but you need to reset the maint hours to 0.

not all dealers see many command link stuff.
not all command link gauges will clear alike.

command link can be a pain to deal with.
its not intuitive nor user friendly.

but once you get comfortable with it it works well.

The OP is one of the many (hundreds/thousands???) that have had this problem. Yamaha Customer Support got so tired of taking calls on the subject they created the video. But never corrected the operations manual.

As Rodbolt mentions there are many dealerships that have never been involved with a Command Link installation, let alone know how to reset a gauge. And it depends upon who you talk to at the dealership. If you call Rodbolt's dealership and talk to Bob/Bill/Joe the new salesman he may very well not know squat about this. Heck, our esteemed Mr. Rodbolt himself might not know how to make a lock to lock setting adjustment on the relatively new Helm Master system using the Command Link Plus display.

As I have mentioned before there are so many different models and systems that have been offered by Yamaha over the years that it is hard to know them all. And they are creating new stuff daily. Now throw Mercury, Honda, Suzuki into the mix and it is enough for a mechanic to pull his hair out.

I agree with you both however when I had issues with my Yamaha MC, under warranty, the dealership called Mama Yamaha Main head quarters in CA for help in fixing the issue.

Yes, that's a motorcycle NOT a marine engine however, IMO, a call to the MAIN tech guys in Ca (same as where you worked and gained your experiance Boscoe), should have reveled that fix/re-set.

If I come across something I can't figure out for myself (or a customer), I'll do the research, make the phone calls, I have personally called Mama Yamaha for my F150 to find out.

IMO, that's basic customer service that should have been done.. To tell a customer to replace a gauge (as their not willing to do a little research) IS SAD. I'd want to know just as I learn something new every day here...

Thank goodness for certain forums and the help and experiance that can be found.

BTW, Yamaha could NOT find the issue with my motorcycle(the dealership and Mama Yamaha tried, easily 2 hours on the phone).

I found the answer and fix on an FJR forum (crapped up connector that liked to collect water and corrode)..

actually,I can set the lock to lock on the helm master.

Volvo also uses the same basic setup on the EVC control.

in fact half the equipment at Kennesaw has VOLVO printed on it.

Teleflex also sells the same basic system.

                      Update on "Maint 100H"

I listened (at least 4 times) to the video the B99 sent. It did work at least one time, maybe 2.

The issues that I have is that the "Maintenance" message never resets to 0. Sometimes I can get back to the original Temp-Batt screen but can't do consistently. When I restart the engine it currently only shows the "Maint" msg. No matter what I do has no effect.

RB17 mentioned something about a green button (for $10). Not sure whether that was an inside joke or not but if it fixes this problem I'd be willing to hear about it.

                      Any comments?

So, did you solve your problem or not?

I have never heard of the procedure in the video not working.

I have heard of people not following the procedure however.

                          Didn't solve the issue.

I listened to the video several times to see if I was missing some suttle point but have come to the conclusion that what I'm doing is correct.

The video says that as I go through the sequence certain things should happen to verify that action is correct. Some of this verification procedure works but not for the entire sequence.

It seems like the button is not being identified by the CLink. For instance, the sequence says to turn the key on and press mode once and this should go from maint to normal. I do this and sometimes it works and sometimes not. There are 6 steps in the procedure and I think if anyone fails I'm SOL.

                            turn the key on.
press and hold the mode button about 4 seconds.
now its going to shift screens.
now you can hit the mode button and scroll past custom, past trim zero set and find maint.
once its flashing press mode and set for 1 second.
that's the tricky part, most likely you will see light sync.
once you do it a few times its easy.

                              Update using RB17 suggestions

                              I used RB17's sequence.

After turning on the key I waited for the Maint100H screen to appear. I held Mode for 4Secs the temp-batt-oil pressure (t-b-op) screen was displayed. Using the mode button I could scroll thru 3 displays:
                              1. t-b-op
                              2. batt
                              3. 890.0h-Tr 0.0h

Currently, when I turn off-on the ignition the display defaults back to the Maint100h. Before the Maint100h screen issue whenever I turned the motor on the t-b-op display would show up and that's what I'm trying to get to.

It seems to me that it's imperative that I get the Maint display reset to 0 and I think to do this requires to get in Custom-Maint mode but I can't get there.

                              Any ideas?
