  • jump timing

    Guys,
any of you that work on keeping outboards alive ever seen a Yami jump timing by at least two teeth? This is an 01 F 25ELHZ. The other day while a friend and I aligned the fly-wheel mark to the mark on the block and low and behold the drive gear mark was 2 teeth off. don't remember if it was retarded or advanced. I want to say retarded. Anyhow, pulled the belt off and the drive gear spun to the right and aligned it self perfectly at TDC.
I do not know when or how this could have happened. The only possibility I can think of is this: the belt has stretched, 570 Hours, 13years old, it must have jumped 2 teeth. Possible? I would hate to think the timing has been off for 13 years.... I must say the belt did feel loose. Specs call for 10 mm stretch, I think mine stretched about 25 mm.
Taking the motor in for a belt change ASAP.
Working...
