  • HELP !!!!!! C90 Enrichment Valve Wiring

I just bought this motor and boat combo (2001 Yamaha C90). I also have the Yamaha OEM Service Manual. The motor is very, very hard to start from a cold state (not run for awhile). I've tried to learn through web searches and sites like this and it seems the culprit is the Fuel Enrichment Valve. The single "BLUE" wire from the valve goes nowhere, it's Ty-Rap'd and capped at the harness. The wire diagram in the manual is extremely hard to read as all the text is so tiny and fuzzy. Can this valve just be powered by 12V using a momentary switch for start up or does it "HAVE" to be wired to something on the motor. Motor restarts once run awhile instantly.
    Regards,
    Gary

blue wire should go to the lighting coil output to the RR, one of the green wires I think.
but that sends voltage to the heater unit only while the motor is running to close off the enrichment,

so maybe your enrichment system red lever is set to the closed position instead of the normal/auto position .
that would keep the system from doing its thing for cold start

Thanks for your reply. First off....I'm no electrician , I can do the basics but that's it. You refer'd to "LIGHTING COIL", yes I saw that on the diagram and the wire color (I think is Green ?) hard to read. The manual choke/enrichment system (RED VALVE) is set to the normal position, I've never used it to start. I understand that this Enrichment Valve is voltage/amperage control'd and gets a signal from a sensor somewhere (I think). So it leads me back to the question, can I power this enrichment valve with a momentary push button switch supplying 12V........Push to turn on Enrichment, Release to turn off ????????????????????
      Regards,
      Gary

no you are wrong about how it works.
when cold the valve opens automatically.
once the motor starts the lighting coil produces electrical current/voltage and slowly closes off the valve as the motor and the valve heats up.
there is wax inside the heater unit that expands as it is heated and that in turn pushes the needle down into the seat to close off the extra fuel.

tell us what your starting procedure is when trying to start this motor cold.

also, apparently the enrichment system does not work if someone disconnected the wire and the motor is not running overly rich once it has warmed up, with no way for it to stop the enrichment because of the disconnected wire.
