Some manufacturers have said if you do not run the motor often then the shiny internal parts do not have much oil protection when not running and may rust , so some people like to run the 50 to 1 just to have the extra oil in there

If 50/1 is good will 25/1 be even better?

50:1 seems to be a pretty well accepted happy medium for 2 stroke outboards...but if 100:1 is O.K. for you then fine...but consider fogging your motor between uses to avoid corroded bearings and journals...

                      You too?

Heck, I have an old craftsman chain saw that calls for 16 to 1.
Probably why it still runs is all of the oil

See if you can help me on the crank thread I have running Bosco99

                          aksually

OMC did the 100/1 for a time on 35 and less hp motors.

                          they quit for a reason

reason was it worked well ONLY if the consumer did what they were supposed to do.
                          which they wont
so OMC sent out a bulliten to return to 50/1.

                          100/1 will work well

ONLY if you maintain the cooling and fuel system AND pay attention to the owners manual which says fog it for LONG term storage.

Yamaha and most others consider anything over 30 days as long term.

its funny but some seagull motors ran on 10/1.

my old 33 ran at 25/1.

I split the difference and run 75:1. 50:1 gets a bit smoky.

Yamaha actually sent out a notice to write "use 50:1 mix" on owners manual covers back then.

My dad's Mercury tower of power ran 24/1.

The one was straight 30 weight motor oil. That's all we had.

Six gallons of gasoline and a quart of oil was two bucks at the marina.

No neutral. Started in forward or reverse depending on which direction you wanted to go.

Crankshaft turned in one direction for forward and in the other direction for reverse.

One throttle handle with the starter button on top. Going from forward to reverse required stopping the motor to restart it in the opposite direction.

No neutral safety switch. No kill switch.

80 HP. Biggest they made at the time. People were amazed that a boat could have so much power.

Ships were made of wood and men were made of iron.

Compass? We did not need no striking' compass.

                              Rest in peace Carl Kiekhaefer.
