  • 2009 F115 Oil Pressure alarm only when cold

I've got an oil alarm that I'm trying to trouble shoot.

Cold start, I quickly get the alarm.

    Warm start, no alarm.

I need to leave it running with the alarm for a bit when I get the alarm, but it sounds fine and once warm, I don't get the alarm any more. At idle, when I pull the dipstick, there is some positive pressure and oil is flying around (I know that isn't a proper check, but I don't have a gauge). Voltage is good, so I can rule out obvious electrical. Oil level is good and I just changed the oil and filter.

I'm thinking this might be a switch issue as I've now run it hard three times in this scenario just to see if it would happen again.
Last summer I had an issue with moisture in the oil after too much *****ing. flushed the oil a lot and had my mechanic go over it. Got the ok. Sat for about 4 weeks before this started happening.

    Any thoughts?

on some too high or too low of oil pressure will set off the alarm if it is out of the mapped pressure.
Would need to hook up a pressure gauge to see what is happening and if out of spec

I had the same issue with my 2002 F115. The alarm only sounded when first started for the day and not every time but it did get that way. It initially took 3-4 stop/starts to clear it and then it got to more then that.

Mechanics tried a couple of things - ie new battery cables and sender - in both cases for some reason it worked for one trip only and then the problem returned.

At the end of the day it was the oil pump.

Best thing to do - put a pressure gauge on your outboard and then you will know for sure.
