    Once the engine is warm, the idle in gear is 600RPM +/- 100, out of gear it is about 800RPM +/- 100.

    These numbers are when the boat is in the water. On the hose, it is higher.

      That sounds pretty normal..

      Re the spit out and stall, IDK.. Someone else will have to chime in

      My neighbors Yamaha 200, 2 stroke used to that, especially when cold did that, not so much once warmed up..

        that spit back is a backfire due to a lean condition in the crankcase.
        it can blow pump diaphrams and in worst cases shear flywheel keys.
        its an uncon*****ed explosion under the piston.
        Yamaha does NOT recommend AGM or dry cell batteries on that motor.

          Thanks. I read that about the lean condition. I briefly adjusted the pilot screw to be more rich. I don't think I pumped the primer bulb though so it still happened so I reverted it to slightly lean within spec. I will double check again set to more rich .

          I am going to continue to run those batteries, hard to get rid of $500+ in batteries.

            The Service manual says turn out the air adjusting pilot screw - 1 turn. +/- 1/4 turn.

            At first I thought opening it up more made it lean. I talked to the mechanic where I store my boat, he said it is the more open, the more fuel (richness).

            They recommended 1.5 turns open as a good starting point. So, I set it at 1.5.

            Went on 2 trips and the boat started first try. Ran without pop or stall. Hit 5000 RPM.

            Boat is running well. Thanks for the assistance here.
