  • 6Y8 compatibility with 75CETO

This may seem like a stupid question to some, but I recently bought a boat with a 2009 Yamaha two stroke 75CETO upgraded to 90 hp ex RNLI outboard with a 703 con*****er. Other than that there were no gauges whatsoever, I was told that a command link tach would be compatible with my engine, so I bought a 6Y8 gauge, rigging kit and hub.

The four pin connector inside the cowling has only three wires connected to it, with one disconnected and another wire coming from the main harness looks as tho it's been cut. The connection from the hub and the engine are both female connections.

I'm no sure if this is because it's just straight up not compatible or at some stage the connections were part of the RNLI's modifications.

Any help would be really appreciated, can't seem to find any clear cut answers anywhere atm.

I don't know of the model number, nor understand what that means.

    But the simple bottom line:
if the engine uses a carburetor,
it does not have Command Link capability.

Many people have said the same, but I promise it exists. It was modified by the RNLI for use on rescue ribs so it can capsize, be righted then continue running.

But it does indeed have carbs so that answers my question. Are you aware of any compatible digital gauges for this type of engine? I'm led to believe the pre lan 6y5 may be but I am not sure.

        A 6Y5 should be fine
There are dipswitches inside the back to select 2 v 4 stroke etc

        I'm weak on 2-strokes -
but I believe the wires at the engine harness that connect to the tach
('via a 'trim & oil harness') are
