Had a real problem with my '86 150 ETLJ a few weeks ago. After 30 minutes of use motor dropped to 1500 RPM at WOT and had "no guts." Difficult to shift in to gear because stalls at slow idle.
After topping off with fresh gasoline, brought home and emptied a can of Sea Foam through the 3 carbs with the muffs on. Idled good. Should note that I top off with fresh fuel after each outing and add the appropriate amount of fuel stabilizer before putting away.
Out again last weekend with no improvement. Still difficult to get to idle slow enough to shift into gear. Once into gear, WOT maxed at about 1500 RPM. Fast idle to 2500 or so, RPM fluctuated then dropped back to 1500 max.
After researching other posts on similar issues, I'm afraid I may be looking at a carb rebuild, but before I do I would appreciate any suggestions regarding what else I might check out. All comments welcome.
