Can anyone tell me what the sensor is with the 3 wires coming out and motor mounted in front of it is?

Looks like an oil pressure sender, assuming that's your oil filter right there. But you can double check by looking it up in a parts diagram. Right at the top of this screen, click on the Yamaha Parts link.

Definitely oil pressure sensor. The black thing is just a shroud over the oil filter, not a motor.
