  • Yamaha 703 control wiring melted and caught fire !

Yamaha repower 2019 f70 703 control wiring Melted and caught fire ..open up panel that The control was Attached and found these 3 wires Nick by aluminum edge ... no wire loom to prevent damage to wires “ .. with blue /white stripe , red white stripe , green white bare wire showing . Could it had possibly been this to cause the 703 meltdown ? . One boat mechanic said no it had to be Battery cables accidentally switch neg to pos and vice versa . They were not switch .

I've never read of a failure like yours on this forum (or elsewhere) in approx 10 years..

How long ago was it re-powered? Very recently?

Pic is too small to tell anything.

Try using (free), Postimage : https://postimages.org/

If a bare wire/worn thru wire is obviously visible, shorted, I suspect you have your answer.

A close up pic of where you suspect it wore thru would help us..

There's fuses thru out the system but a dead short is a different animal..

*I'd suspect who ever re-powered your boat, while in the control box, hooking up control cables, may have been sloppy and wires not
    re-installed properly..

Your pic enlarged but still not very clear:

my guess is the red, blue,& green wires are for the tilt and trim.
are the ends in your hand dead ended/open or do they go somewhere?

Red would be battery pos, might check wiring diagrams to see if that is fused or not
