what motor did the used power head com off of?
did the flywheel and all electrical come with it?

what year motor CDI did you buy?
    strange it is different spec.

you did not answer my question on WOT timing.
what does the timing light say it is now that you adjusted the timing at idle?

what about the recirculation check valves?
also there are crank seals top and bottom and between the cylinders that could go bad

Power head was the same year, I used all my electrical stuff and flywheel etc, was the bare powerhead I bought, WOT timing seems to be roughly right with the wiper disconnected I briefly advanced it WOT and seems in spec, didn't have much time today as family commitments but will check the valves tomorrow. The CDI was for my model year, works for the 40hp and others as well, checked on the website http://www.cdielectronics.com/cdi-ap...tionSearchForm

That CDI seems do various years etc, the yamaha's as far as I know( could be wrong) didn't change much can't understand how the manual is wrong but the instructions from CDI are different??

This is where the wiper is now, obviously it's well above full advance mark at WOT now, as you said earlier that is to be expected

I would talk with someone at CDI and show them that pic of where the wiper sits when timing light is where they say it should be.
maybe they build them different than Yamaha.
did you verify the timing mark for TDC was correct with #1 piston
