Do the hoses on the oil pump need to be hooked up as the parts diagram shows them? These are the hoses from the pump with the check valves in line going to each cyl.

I'm working on a Black Fin with twin 250's one engine is smoking real bad the other is ok. the one smoking bad has the hoses hooked up helter skelter. The good engine is according to diagram. I'm replacing the "O" rings on the pump and noticed the hoses out of order. would this add to heavy smoke from that engine?
I was a Marine Mechanic for many years but had to retire 9 years ago for health reasons and a lot of what I did daily has slipped through the cracks of my memory. I'm helping a family member with this repair and so far this is the only thing I find that seems to be out of order. Just needed some reassurance I was on the right track. Thanks
