  • Help with identifying Year make

I’ve searched all over the internet, can someone tell me the year manufacturer based on this serial number plate?

    Try this: https://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+deciphe...+serial+number

Now, what I don't know is why the last letter is missing... maybe this is a motor from outside the US and it's different? I'm sure someone else can help.

Yamaha stopped using model years after the 2005 model year. The fourth letter identifying the model year is no longer used. On the other side of the motor there should be a decal showing the month and year of manufacture.

I found one link that says the single letter at the bottom right stands for the year date, which mine is a “G”. But I can’t find anything else backing that up. Here is that link

That is BS. Yamaha stopped using model year dates in 2005.

Did you not find the sticker on the other side that states the month and year of manufacture?

Lance, I brought it up above, but you didn't clarify if this engine is from outside the US. The link you noted talks about Asian Yamahas. I don't anything more than that - am just looking at what you provided. BUT, did you also notice, according to your link, what year your engine would then be? Doesn't make sense.

Also, what about Boscoe's statement of looking for the tag on the other side?

For help, we need to have two-way communication.

If there is another tag on the opposite side it must be missing. The motor looks like the newer styles and is on a 2009 pontoon.

Made during 2008 or 2009. Stands to reason being on a 2009 pontoon boat.

Go to the Yamaha USA website and search for your motor by PID number. See what comes up.
