Yes the o ring is around the housing that slips into the crank case.
I agree with using proper sealant, just have to find the correct one.
Seems if I do not buy part #s 12, 13, 14, and 20 on that part break down( as I do not need them) it will save me money to buy gaskets and seals separately

They said they did not carry the Loctite 572 but I should be able to find it at any hardware store
