  • yamaha remote control box 703 Issue

Have Yamaha 50 hp electric start with 703 control box console mounted. Throttle lever stops at just enough throttle to make about 10 MPH. Slow ***** speed. If I really force it (I mean lean on throttle with all my weight) the throttle will open up and run full speed. Hard to then back off throttle and consequently not smooth. Pretty sure it has nothing to do with throttle friction setting. The bolt holding the throttle handle was loose allowing the throttle assembly to slip out about a 1/4". I took throttle assembly off and tightened the bolt. Still the same force required to open throttle. Anyone have any suggestion on what may be wrong. I just bought the boat (used but very low hours) and it is a 2006 model motor.

Remove top cowling and disconnect controls....then determine if problem is in cables/con*****er or back at motor.....

I have just purchased an outboard 85hp Yamaha , however the control box 703 is in bad condition to look at > it works absolutely fine . Can anyone advise / suggest if i could purchase the outter cover of the control box.

If you don't want to drop the big $'s for new parts, you should be able to give it a good sanding and either use Rustoleum rattle can on it OR truck bed liner rattle can. The truck bed rattle can will hide a whole bunch of imperfections..

I've re-finished my transom mounted aluminum fuel / water separator (aluminum) with Rustoleum black after scrapping off peeling paint(used in salt water). The new paint (prep is MOST important) has held up 200% better than when it was new... and still looks it!
