I've been working through and adjusting my '92 70hp. This evening I checked the oil pump out put, as per the instructions on the Yammaha service manual. Well ... I'm a little confused at the outcome. The book says I should have between 2.02 and 2.46 ml of oil discharged in 3 minutes. I had 4.9 ml in 3 minutes. Had this same reading on the top and middle cylinder ... didn't bother to check the bottom.
Engine RPM was at 1500, oil linkage was disconnected and all the way open ... just as specified on the shop manual. Temp was 60 degrees (calls for 50-86 in the book).
The only thing not as per the book (at least that I can see) is my oil is fresh Pennzoil Premium Plus (TCW-3) instead of Yamalube.
Anyone have any insight? Could it be the oil? Time to replace the oil pump?
I've thought since I bought this unit (last year) that she smoked a little more than I thought it would/should ... better extra oil than not enough I guess!!!
