  • 2012 f40 going into safe mode with no alarm

I have a 2012 yamaha f40 that was bought brand new 8 months ago. It has 132 hours. It's been to 2 dealerships and both say there's nothing wrong with it. The problem does seem to be intermittent but is starting to happen almost every trip. I can run the motor usually around 4500 rpm's with no problems. BUT after its turned off for a little bit (to fish), when I go to start the motor to move to a new spot it will go into safe mode and runs like crap above 2000 rpm's but no alarm will sound. I know the alarm works because on one trip a plastic bag got wrapped around the lower unit and the alarm sounded to let me know it was over heating. Water is coming out like normal. The water seems to be coming out a little warmer than the lake water so I'm guessing the water pump and impeller are working correctly??? I did replace the thermostat because it was rusted and wasn't replaced at my 100 hour maintenance at the first dealer. Has anyone had this problem before?

If the alarm is working, but you are not hearing it, then the motor is not going into the RPM reduction mode. I suspect that you have a different issue.

Has your dealer been able to duplicate the problem? Hard to fix what cannot be found to be broken.

What is the serial number of the motor?
