Protecting gas pump?

Hi there!
I am using the Yamaha F15 AMHS year 2004 outboard in my sail boat.
During prolonged periods of mooring I use to drain the gasoline from the carburetor but the gas pump will still be full of gasoline.
My question: Should I live it as is or should I manage to drain it too?

Probably sufficient to use a heavy dosage of the Stabil Marine in your fuel system all the time and drain the carb....
