  • F115TXRB needed help

    Hello Everyone,

I have a 2003 115 four stroke and out of the blue the first time I start the motor it will idle for one minute then shut off. restart and same results for a number of times. Then something happens and it will run fine the remainder of the day. Sometimes when at first start i will put into gear and it may or may not stay running. If it does i slowly get out to open water then throttle up and then it shuts off again.

I just received the software and cable and hooked up no recent codes. I did find the shift senor position switch sticking.

I just replaced fuel line to motor and primmer ball. This summer replaced VST filter and installed new injectors. Also put in a new fuel filter twice in the last two outings.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dean

did you attempt the ISC active test?
    did you monitor fuel pressure?
that's about the only 2 things the ECU does NOT monitor.

      ran tests

Key on the first time after sitting for a few days 20 psi. Then i pumped prmer ball and up to 40 psi. Ran the static test a few times and reliving the pressure after each test always went to 40 psi. Ran engine 38 psi at idle. 37 at 1500 rpm.

Ran ISC static and could hear rattle.

Ran active test 3 sec test. Heard idle increase and saw on screen 100% @1534rpm.

Also have an Angle of ISC valve opening test that takes 30 minutes. No information in manual and ran for a few minutes at idle and valve opening stayed at 65%. I then aborted the test due to lack of knowledge running it.

When I was running engine and selected engine monitor at idle 890 rpm valve was at 60%. I will try to post the results at 3 different rpm ranges I think i saved.
      Thanks again for your assistance.

                your numbers look good.
judging by the atmospheric pressure your weather is turning bad.

revving in N is a waste of time.
you need the engine at the failure RPM and load.

your describing a lack of rail pressure.
possibly due to an air leak in the VST supply,a bad fuel pump diaphragm or a clogged filter between the lift pump and the VST.

at idle the ISC request is typically in the 60% range.

Looks like the tps values are out of range, should be 0,732v at idle.

are you nuts or just don't understand the plus or minus .02v ?
numbers look ok, fix the fuel system.

                        fuel system

ok today i went and put fuel gauge back on the rail. after siting over night lost pressure. It took 4 key cycles to get pressure up to 40psi. Let everything set and know about after .5 hour it is already down to 32 psi. I need to look at the mechanical fuel pump and line to vst tank.H ow can I check for air leak. A visual inspection shows no leaks.

Thank you all for your assistance,

leaking down to 32 psi after 1/2 hour is normal.
4 key cycles to get 40 psi is NOT normal.

Pump the primer ball to make sure the VST is full of fuel.

When the key is turned on the fuel gauge should indicate 40 psi or so. If not, there is a problem with the pump, the circuitry to the pump or possibly the pressure regulator.

Start the motor and let it idle. The fuel pressure will drop a bit to ~ 36 psi but then become steady. The motor should continue to idle. If the motor dies while at the same time the fuel pressure drops then there is the problem again with the fuel pump or pressure regulator.

Fuel pump is most likely but it could be any one of a number of many other things.

if you will look at the entire recorded data the RPM indicates 1960 with a TPS value of about .861 and a MAP value of about 13". means the throttle is being opened and the engine has no load.
revving with no load is stupid at best and worthless for troubleshooting.

my money will be on a low supply in the VST.
