A water separating fuel filter is like a man wearing suspenders and a belt. The suspenders might not be needed but he knows for sure his pants won't fall down.
Given that fuel related issues are the number one problem with Yamaha motors you might be well served to have both filters. Think of it as very cheap insurance.

Mercruiser (I work at a dealership), who also uses a 10-micron, specs running the "fogging" mixture (which contains 2-cycle) through the fuel system for winterization. One of the ways to do this is by hooking up an external tank (with the ****tail mix) before the filter. Yup, you can run pre-mix through just fine. Think of it this way - if premix was LARGER than 10 microns, and a filter is designed to keep things out of the engine (that are 10 micron or larger), wouldn't pre-mix then be considered 'bad' for the engine?2000 Yamaha OX66 250HP SX250TXRY 61AX103847T
