I know nothing about outboards. I am playing the part of parts chaser.

1,600 miles deep into Mexico, son-in-law says a bolt-on Yamaha brand pneumatic assist to help tilt the motor has sprung a bad oil leak. What is this part actually called? How can I find out more info about what it is, where to get another or is it repairable with a rebuild kit? The part has a YAMAHA decal on it but no part number or name of the part.

The device acts as as assist to help with the weight of the motor when trying to tilt it up to land on the beach.

He is 2,000 miles south of the border. I am only 700 miles away from a Yamaha dealer. Or any other dealer.

Its a TRIM and TILT unit.

You'll need to know the MODEL # before you can do anything as there's numerous 60 HP models..

Are Tilt And Trim Units Field Rebuildable?

If the thing is not repairable and new ones cost 900 dollars in the USA then there is little use pursuing this, here.

But if the price seems a little steep then I can order something, hopefully affordable to fix or replace the thing.

Where is the data-plate located on the Yamaha motors in this general year range (2006)?

I have images of the tilt and trim unit on my brand new cellphone but I need to learn how to download them into the computer.

Please bear in mind we are not in lake havasu, I am 700 miles south of the border and the boat is 2,000 miles south of the border.

The left hand clamp bracket should have a sticker on it that displays the model and the engine serial number.

A two stroke will have something like 60TLR for the model. A four stroke may be F60TLR. The engine ID will begin with the number 6.

Short of some serious salt water rot to the unit, it should be repairable. If it sprung a leak, most likely an o-ring failed.

Cleaning it spotless, refilling, then checking for EXACTLY where its leaking is the key...

As other stated complete model / serial numbers are needed
Kind of like WFCO model and serial numbers
